Rat Ghosts; Meat Machines

This is the weirdest thing I’ve seen today

(from)

It’s a little robot controlled by rat-brain neurons grown in a petri dish.

They had things a bit like this on Dune etc… immortality of a mechanical sort. The ones on Dune weren’t controlled by blue-tooth though, because blue-tooth hadn’t been invented yet. Apparently different brains have different personalities.

The rat thing above was made by some people in Reading, UK apparently, and anyone who knows Reading will be semi unsurprised. Reading’s a semi unsurprising sort of place… but it is the sort of place where rat-brain controlled robots might not necessarily be out of place… and that this might not necessarily be a bad thing. It’s hard to say.

An ode to Cognitive Surplus.

A celebration of the inventive backwaters of the human spirit... a celebration of people who would appear to have far too much time on their hands...

A celebration of laterality.

If you come they will build it.

By knowledge shall the spheres be filled.
