Like a lead torpedo with wings

Or a Copper F-111

Or something else. This as an artifact is (to these jaded eyes) more beautiful desconstructed than… well, constructed:

coppercar

Which is from this here site (via)(via)… which is a classic example of the way that “people who actually do stuff” don’t need to compete on polish. In the wonderful world of the-hardware-revolution-to-come it seems to be a standard sort of thing, that the “less designed” the site, the more interesting it probably is – although somewhere down there is an intersection with memetic addiction. There’ perpetual-motion machines in them-thar hills.

I like stuff that hasn’t been put together yet – there was another one recently:

contraptor

Contraptor… which has generated a bit of a ripple of late – it’s a constructor set for making CNC powered robotic tools… and (within this ever-more-flimsy 4/3*pi*r-cubed space) the most interesting thing to turn up for weeks, though obviously my reaction is “Oooh! Shiny!”

Because I have this bi-polar vacillation between clueless-superficiality and attempting to go so deep that I wind up going right through the bottom of the box and all my groceries go rolling all over the floor. Right now I’m clueless, and will be (I expect) until the end of the week. So Shiny it is. Shiny Shiny Shiny.

(There as a similar sort of thing… Unimats – modular lathe/drill/CNC type thing made out of the industrial open-constructor kit 80/20 stuff

)

But I digress… back to… err… there was another thing a while back as well… a deconstructed reprap?

This all reminds me (for reasons I know not) of the still-in-its-plastic-frame little toy indescribable thing I saw a while back. Danged if I can find it now of course. Someone’s made a t-shirt out of it.

I don’t know what they are, them li’l fings, but there are thousands of them. There’s a whole site about them here. Which is quite interesting. I even bought some myself – last time I was in Singapore. “Oooh” thunk I. “Li’l fings”. They’re the same ones as these:

They’re sitting on the shelf next to me, watching me type.
